Teaching English In Qatar

by Cyrus90 on 2009/12/03

I have checked all the salaries in countries around the world from America to Australia. The middle east pays best. What you have read is true, there’s a huge education reform taking place in most of the oil rich Gulf Countries and Emirates which includes Dubai. The wages are good, the behavioral issues are bad. My advice to you is make sure you are skilled in classroom management before you entertain a position in the Middle East. Research Muslim culture and become familiar with the customs that make the Arab world so unique. If your already beyond this realization your academic qualifications are the only thing holding you back or lack there of. Agencies make deals with the established schools to recruit teachers. Agencies require Teaching Degree’s, and or TEFL, CELTA certifications with 3 years of classroom experience. My first English teaching job in the Middle East, I got the job simply because I was a native English speaker. It was a new International School that needed teachers immediately. It was good for me because I needed money immediately as well. The negative thing about being hired without the use of an agency is you don’t get all the benefits that come with being a westerner in the Middle East. You don’t get a paid accommodation with travel allowance and transportation. A word about behavioral issues, they are not limited to Arab students. Make sure you have agreements in place and contractual obligations are realistic. Schools that will except you just because your a native English speaker will certainly have shortcoming of some kind. However, if you want to get real experience and make nice money teaching By ESL/EFL standards world wide Qatar is a great choice.

Doha Travel

Qatar Dimensions of Travel

Doha gives residing westerners access to parts of the world that are not as accessible from North America. Simply put Qatar is centrally located from a global stand point. Qatar’s travelers favorite vacation spots are Dubai of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) or South East Asia including  Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and also major tourist cities in North African are just a few hours away by plane. Egypt and Morocco are all within a few hours reach when Qatar is the origination point. Qatar Airways continues to open up non stop routes all over the world.  Being based in Doha, Qatar can add a new dimension to your world travel. It’s great to see  a 16 hour flight cut to a 6 hour flight, that translates to great adventures and savings of time and money. Just one more reason to take the opportunities in Qatar’s job market seriously if you like adventure.
