City of Doha Sports Capital of the Middle East
The Government of Qatar is making a huge effort to bring live professional sports. The infrastructure of the city of Doha is in preparation for review by the International Olympic Committee for the right to Host the 2020 Olympic Games. The 2006 Asians Games a Olympic style gathering of Asian nations including some countries of the Middle East. The Asian Games held in Doha were a huge success and plan to return to Doha in 2010 . Big names like Tiger Woods, Jeff Gordon, Serena Williams, Allison Felix all compete here annually. Former NBA Star Cliff Livingston has been named the Head Basketball Coach of the Qatar National Team. The Qatari team is made up of many nationalized players (dual citizenship). Philippines represent one of the largest expatriate groups in Qatar. A built in fan base exists in Doha because of the large Filipino expatriate presence. Philippines official national sport is Basketball.
